The 116th Annual Juried Exhibition will run from Wednesday February 1 until Sunday May 13, 2012.

HISTORY OF EXHIBITIONS
The first exhibition was held in 1896 and every year since then, WAAH exhibits have been held in various galleries and locations with an annual juried show at the Art Gallery of Hamilton every year since 1947.

It's Your City Mississauga
Take 2: Culture Days
October 1, 2011

Yesterday I experienced a community full of creative and artful people in the City of Mississauga. I participated in Take 2: Cultural Days in Celebration Square. We go there at 9:30 am to set up the It’s Your City Project. It was windy and cold. But the Culture Division employees from the city were out with coats and mitts! We set out project up just outside of the library near the main stage. As people came and went, we simply asked them to participate and almost everyone did when we asked!

It was amazing to see young children, teenagers, adults, and the elderly engage in throwing, squirting, and even pour paint despite the cold and the wind.

As the clouds spread to let the sun shine, the cityscape started to come together. First was the Celebration Square, then Streetsville, and then cake?!? The library was celebrating a birthday so we got to eat cake J

By 3:00 the cityscape was done and people were invited to come and see the landscape they had created, interact, and even touch the textured canvases. This was such an amazing experience and It’s Your City Mississauga demonstrates the passion, the beauty, and the diversity of the community.

A BIG thank you to the City of Mississauga Cultural Division for inviting me to come and do my project during Culture Days. An Even BIGGER thank you for the people of Mississauga for participating!

It's Your City Mississauga

On Saturday October 1, 2011 the art installation project “It’s Your City Mississauga” will be happening at Mississauga Celebration Square from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. This project is made possible with the Culture Division of the City of Mississauga.

The “It’s Your City Project” started in summer of 2010 at the Find Your Spirit Festival in Brantford, ON and has been completed in Kitchener-Waterloo, and Hamilton. This is a traveling art installation project which Lizzie Gosse hopes to complete in as many cities as possible.

The theme of this art installation is public interactive participation. It’s Your City project fosters creativity, participation, and interaction between the community, the creative process, and the artist.

What makes up this project?

“It’s Your City Mississauga” will consist of various small canvases what will be prepared with different textures using various household materials. The canvases will be laid out on a tarp where people can use different bottles to pour, squirt, and spray the paint in an abstract form. Once dry, the canvases will be hung to a master board to create a cityscape of the Mississauga area.

What else makes this project special?

The installation will be touchable. I really enjoy touch artwork, even though it is widely unacceptable. The idea of touchable artwork comes from the studying of Marshall McLuhan’s theory that the medium is the message. To fully understand and comprehend the artwork, the individual must interactive with the medium not only by sight, but by one of our strongest senses, touch.

It's Your City Hamilton

On Septemer 26, 2010 the It's Your City Project was completed in Hamilton during the Open Streets Hamilton. The project is 4 ft x 2 ft. It was completed on compressed wood board.

The rough board represents the industrial landscape of Hamilton. The background is white with the blue images of Stelco and the Skyway Bridge. The creatively painted tiles are juxtaposed on the board. They represent the emerging arts and culture in Hamilton. Included are the Art Gallery of Hamilton, James St N, Locke St S, and Ottawa St. The nature represented on these tiles include the RBG, the Bruce Trail, and the many waterfalls Hamilton has. Ivor Wynne Stadium, McMaster University, and City Hall are buildings also present in this landscape because of their significance to Hamilton.

Its Your City Project @ Find Your Spirit Festival

I was at the Find Your Spirit Festival August 20 to 21, 2010 at Harmony Square in downtown Brantford. The festival was put on by Brantford Arts Block and hosted an array of artists, performances, and installation artists.

The public was involved in painting a cityscape of canvases on Friday using their hands and spray bottles only as creative instruments to paint. Once dry I created identifying marks, such as windows, the fountain, the bridge, and the clock tower with paint. On Saturday finishing touches were added and the public was invited to name the project and touch the textured works. In the end I decided to go with the name "Its Your City". My desire is to do this project in many communities! Lets hope this dream can become a reality.

The idea behind Find Your Spirit is to encourage a broader appreciation and understanding of the arts and their importance in local communities. It is about connecting to new audiences and offering activities that give the public a wider understanding of the creative process, an opportunity to engage in cultural activities in new ways, and a greater awareness of the cultural resources available locally.

Elizabeth offers an inter...active public installation involving paint and multimedia.A cityscape of canvases where the public can become engaged in painting their city. Friday evening the public are invited to participate by using their hands and spray bottles only as creative instruments to paint on canvas. Wire Bead Rings @ 11:00-12:00
In this one-hour class, you will make one or two wire rings. You will learn how to shape the ring, wrap the wire around the bead safely and securely. Different types of wiring and beads will be available. If you have any special beads, please feel free bring them with you to incorporate it into your ring. Not all beads will be able to fit the larger size of the wire used. Please bring your own needle –nose pliers with you. Cost: $30 minimum of 4 people maximum of 8

Simple Drop Earrings @ 10:00 to 11:00
In this one-hour class, you will make two pairs of simple dangle earrings. Different patterns will be taught – each student will chose which type of Drop Earring they would like to make. All materials will be supplied. A variety of beads and colours will be available. If you have any special beads, please feel free bring them with you to incorporate them into your earrings. The Cambridge Arts Festival is celebrating its 15th year of offering local artists the opportunity to showcase their works in a variety of genres. Cambridge and its outlying areas are encouraged and welcome to take part in this interactive festival and take part in the workshops, demonstrations and hands-on activities.

About the Festival

On June 5th from 10 am until 10 pm in and around Cambridge City Hall, Civic Square and the Centre for the Arts

The Children’s Area runs until 8:15 pm and kids of all ages can create their own works of art (check out the CAF website for scheduled crafts

Word Up is back! Choose a word, any word. Word Up is an interactive and public display of evolving poetic creativity.

The 17th Annual Local Art Show will be held at the Erland Lee Musuem from November 1- December 6th.

The opening night is November 1 from 2- 4 pm

The museum's carraige house will accommodate over 100 works of art from local artists.

Stolen: My Logo Original

I was at Hamilton's Wingfest this weekend, the first time showing in the city, second time ever and sometimes between Saturday night and Sunday morning my black and white painting which I use as my logo was stolen out of the Art Market.

I hope whoever took it feels ashamed and guilty for their actions. They have no idea what that painting means to me and for you to have targeted that specific piece and nothing else at the show really hurts. Please return it to the Williams Coffee Shop Office with no questions asked.

We know what goes around comes around and one day something precious of yours will be taken like you have taken my artwork.

If you know who has taken it, see it in someone's house encourage them to return it.
